PHELAN GREEN E-SAF PROJECT

Megchem awarded Phelan Green e-SAF Project contract.

We are pleased to announce that Megchem has been awarded the contract to deliver the Basic Engineering Design (BED) package for the Balance of Plant (BOP), site-wide infrastructure, and overall plant integration services for the Phelan Green Electro-Sustainable Aviation Fuel (e-SAF) Project near Hopefield in the Western Cape, South Africa. e-SAF is a synthetic aviation fuel produced using renewable energy and is regarded as one of the key technologies for reducing carbon emissions in the aviation industry.

The Phelan Green project represents a significant milestone in the advancement of sustainable aviation fuel production in South Africa. By integrating green hydrogen production with advanced e-SAF technology, the project will support the global aviation industry’s decarbonization goals. Based on publicly available project information, the facility is expected to become one of the world’s largest commercial-scale e-SAF production plants.

AS PART OF OUR SCOPE, WE WILL PROVIDE:

  •   Basic Engineering Design for Balance of Plant systems
  •   Site-wide utility and infrastructure engineering
  •   Plant integration and interface management
  •   Technical coordination across process and infrastructure packages
  •   Support for project development and execution planning

This award reflects our capability to deliver complex industrial and energy-transition projects, combining multidisciplinary engineering expertise with practical project execution experience.

“We are honoured to be part of the Phelan Green e-SAF Project, which has the potential to position South Africa as a significant participant in the emerging sustainable aviation fuel industry. Our multi-disciplinary teams look forward to working closely with the project stakeholders to deliver a robust, integrated engineering solution that supports the successful development of this landmark facility.”  Raymond Johnstone Pr.Eng – Lead Project Manager
