Supporting a Brighter Future at the Fakkel School of Skills Golf Day

On 29 March, golfers, sponsors, and supporters gathered at Heron Banks Golf Course in Sasolburg for the annual Fakkel School of Skills Golf Day, an event dedicated to raising awareness and support for one of the region’s most impactful educational institutions.

The day provided an opportunity for the community and local businesses to come together around a common purpose: supporting learners with moderate intellectual disabilities and helping to create opportunities for a better future.

About Fakkel School of Skills

Fakkel School of Skills serves learners with moderate intellectual disabilities, many of whom also face additional special needs and challenging socio-economic circumstances. The school plays a vital role in providing not only education and skills development but also essential support services that many families rely on.

A significant number of learners come from households with limited financial resources. Approximately 90% of learners do not have access to medical aid, while nearly one-third are unable to pay school fees. For many children, the support they receive at school extends beyond the classroom.

Every day, the school provides meals to learners who might otherwise go without food. Food parcels are often distributed to families during weekends and school holidays, while a clothing bank helps provide necessities such as warm clothing, shoes, and sweaters to those in need.

More Than a Golf Day

The Golf Day was more than a sporting event, it was a demonstration of what can be achieved when communities, businesses, and individuals work together to support a meaningful cause.

Events such as these play an important role in helping the school continue its work, ensuring that learners have access to educational opportunities, nutritional support, and the resources needed to thrive despite the challenges they may face.

Throughout the day, participants enjoyed a memorable round of golf while contributing to an initiative that directly impacts the lives of hundreds of children and their families.
