Honoring Mabasa Ndzalama and Janco Van Zyl

MegChem continues its dedication to empowering the next generation of engineers by recognizing outstanding achievements in Engineering Graphics and Design (EGD) for Grade 12 learners. Following the tradition established in 2023, we proudly awarded two prestigious floating trophies accompanied by cash prizes to this year’s top Matric learners in EGD. These awards, presented on the 17th and 18th of October 2024, symbolize our commitment to nurturing future engineering talent and promoting academic excellence.

Trophy 1: Mabasa Ndzalama – Highveld Park High School

On the 17th of October 2024, the first trophy was awarded to Mabasa Ndzalama at Highveld Park High School. Mabasa’s remarkable performance in EGD stood out, demonstrating not only technical skill but also a deep understanding of the engineering principles at the heart of the subject. This achievement highlights his dedication and passion for the field, qualities that align with MegChem’s mission to inspire innovation in the engineering industry. The award was presented by MegChem’s Director – Corporate Affairs and Training, Linda Magqabi, who congratulated Mabasa on his exceptional accomplishment.

Trophy 2: Janco Van Zyl – Hoërskool Oosterland

The second award ceremony took place on the 18th of October 2024 at Hoërskool Oosterland, where Janco Van Zyl was honored with the floating trophy. Janco’s outstanding work in EGD not only displayed his commitment to excellence but also his innovative approach to solving complex engineering challenges. His award, presented by Linda Magqabi, celebrates the qualities MegChem values in future engineering professionals: a drive for excellence and a passion for advancing the field.

A Testimony of Overcoming Adversity

As part of the evening proceedings at Highveld Park High School, attendees were moved by the inspiring testimony of Wandile Mavimbela. Once a scholar at Highveld Park, Wandile’s journey has come full circle. He was a recipient of a MegChem bursary, which supported him through his studies at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, and is now employed as an engineer at MegChem. During his speech, Wandile shared his experiences of overcoming adversity when faced with unfamiliar circumstances, shedding light on the resilience and determination needed to succeed. His story resonated with the audience, particularly the young learners, as it underscored the power of perseverance and the opportunities that arise from hard work and dedication.

Empowering the Leaders of Tomorrow

MegChem’s sponsorship of these awards is part of our ongoing effort to inspire young minds and support their journey into the engineering world. By recognizing Mabasa and Janco’s exceptional talents, we continue to encourage academic dedication and the pursuit of engineering careers. Their achievements serve as an inspiration for other learners to strive for excellence in EGD and beyond.

As we celebrate Mabasa and Janco’s remarkable accomplishments, we look forward to seeing the positive impact they will undoubtedly have in shaping the future of engineering. MegChem remains committed to promoting education and fostering the skills necessary to drive innovation in a technology-driven industry.
