  • Minimum Grade 12 with Mathematics and Engineering Graphics (50% minimum).
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in drafting.
  • Advanced skills in AutoCad.
  • Advanced skills in Microstation.
  • Certified in Sasol’s 3 month SmartPlant P&ID Course.
  • Experience in As-builting of plants (ISO’s and/or PID’s) will be an advantage.
  • Good leadership, planning and organizational skills.
  • Must be self-motivated.
  • Good communication skills.
  • MS Office proficient.
  • Be able to work independently and in a team.
  • Valid drivers’ license (Code B/EB) with own transport.


  • The candidate will be required to Cad redlined P&IDs in AutoCad and SmartPlant. Booking drawings out and into Sasol’s EIE system. Managing drawing revisions and liaise with process engineers. Getting JCE’s signed off by client. Checking / As-builting of drawings on site.

  • Minimum of B Eng / B Sc Eng degree in Chemical Engineering with at least 10 years’ experience.
  • Experience in managerial roles may be beneficial.
  • Good analytical and lateral thinking skills.
  • Attention to detail and affection for detail design.
  • Design, commissioning experience preferably in the petrochemical and/or chemical plant design environment.
  • Good knowledge of simulation software tools.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills, be able to manage the financial wellbeing and morale of the group, attending to isolated matters pertaining to individuals, be it work related or personal, manage tools and resources, and optimize the value add to the MegChem business.
  • Managing the quality systems in the process engineering group.
  • Good interpersonal and client relations with the ability to market services.
  • Must be self-motivated.
  • Be able to work independently and in a team.
  • Good communication and report writing skills.
  • Valid driver’s license with own transport (Code B/EB).


  • The successful candidate will be expected to provide technical leadership in the process engineering group while performing detail design on multidisciplinary projects. The intent is eventually to identify from candidates in the group, the right talent to lead the group of engineers by managing all the aspects of the business unit that is required to produce quality engineering deliverables in an environment that is safe and pleasant to work in. The person will lead a team of engineers in the engineering and design to support of EPC projects as well as on consultation basis to the clients’ maintenance and engineering teams. Ideally the person shall be able to manage but also be a pillar of strength on technical grounds, through which team members can be guided towards the most efficient solutions. Responsibilities will include the detail design, guidance of less experienced engineers, maintenance and improvement of the quality management system, and may gradually expand to include safety management, resource planning and group finances as management responsibilities increase. Design work will involve the use of various software tools and will also require the engineer to perform calculations from first principles. The team also assist with construction and commissioning support and work closely with the other engineering disciplines
