Construction Manager

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The construction manager is fully responsible for the management of the construction portion of a project and report to the project manager. They will be responsible for managing multidisciplinary projects. (Mechanical and piping, Control and instrumentation, Civil and structural, Electrical – experience in all these fields will be an advantage)

EXPERTISE & TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

•   Tertiary construction management or a relevant engineering qualification with at least 5 years’ construction experience is preferred.
•   Alternatively, candidates with a recognised trade with at least 10 years’ Petrochemical experience.
•   Candidate to demonstrate his experience/knowledge in the following fields – Mechanical and piping, Control and Instrumentation, Civil and structural, Electrical.
•   SACPCMP registration as a Construction Manager will be an advantage.
•   Supervisory Management diploma would be an advantage.
•   Must be very conversant with reading and interpreting of project schedules, piping P&ID’s, MFD’s and associated electrical drawings and instrumentation loop drawings.
•   Skilled in Microsoft Suites, SharePoint and Smartsheet would be advantageous.
•   Good interpersonal skills / conflict management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

•   Coordination of construction activities and manage construction team and sub-contractors.
•   Compile construction method statement and construction execution plans.
•   Assist planner to compile construction schedules.
•   Develop and implement objectives and responsibilities of construction team members.
•   Ensure compliance to OHS Act and construction regulations.
•   Manage construction safety as per OHS Act section 8.1.
•   Perform Risk assessments/ Risk management.
•   Facilitate constructability review and give input to engineering.
•   Manage and ensure compliance to quality requirements during fabrication and construction.
•   Ensure construction progress is effectively monitored or measured and reported.
•   Manage the handover of the plant for completion of construction, punch lists and rectification of defects in cooperation with the client and ensure compliance.
•   Facilitate and Chair feedback meetings with client, Constructability meetings and alignment meetings with sub-contractors.
